A helping hand.......

  1. Gee I saw this from the smaller view in the feeder and I thought of an electric razor slowly revolving. I cut myself again yesterday with that 1954 antique but I will not give up.
Oh by the way I gave your blog to a young man who may contact you for guidance. His name is Anthony.

  2. Jack thanks.. I look forward to connecting with Anthony..

Most DE blades are good for 4-7 shaves, depending on a number of variables. If you are at or near that limit, things get pretty dicey.

Be sure your beard is completely hydrated. Critical to success!! Well soaked hair is 85% softer than dry hair, so you can imagine the discomfort associated with shaving if you haven't hydrated well enough.

That said.. Using absolutely no pressure on the razor is the most difficult adjustment cartridge shaver need face. We grow accustomed to man-handling the plastic multi-bladed modern razor and doing so with a DE will certainly result in some damage. Let the weight of the razor be all the pressure you apply and do light reduction passes with a rinse & relather in between.

Second is your angle of attack.. Lay the safety bar against your skin and slowly raise the handle as you start your stroke, so the blade contacts your beard.. the angle should be about 30 degrees. A shallower angle results in scraping the whiskers and hurts like heck. A steeper angle leaves you vulnerable to slicing into your skin.. Neither are particularly efficient.
